Use of desiccant

When are they used?

Desiccants are an important aspect of protecting (product) packaging. A container is exposed to different temperatures and humidity conditions during intermodal transport, i.e. transportation by truck, rail and ship.

The temperature differences in the various climate zones or times of day can result in so-called “container rain”. Moisture is deposited on the container ceiling, which can then drip onto your goods.

Desiccants have been developed to protect sensitive goods and moisture-sensitive packaging such as cardboard boxes from moisture damage. These can absorb maximum moisture from the ambient air. Rothschenk desiccants are available in different versions, tailored to the required applications.

Data logger

With the Data Logger, the temperature and humidity values inside a container can be tracked along the entire transportation route.

This means that damage can be allocated and avoided in the future. The data logger has a practical USB port and pre-installed software. This means that the data can be easily read out on any PC.

These are summarized in the form of a report.

All advantages at a glance
  • Handy: At 94 x 41 x 8 mm and just 27.5 g, the data logger is compact and does not take up much space
  • Long-lasting: after activation, the battery has a runtime of at least 90 days
  • Flexible: The measurable temperature range is -30° C to +70° C
  • More than one value: In addition to the temperature, the humidity range 0% to 100% RH
  • Robust: protected against dust and water jets
  • Easy to use: Readout possible without additional technology – a PC is sufficient
  • Complies with standards: Complies with DIN EN 12830

Desiccant FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How can desiccants be secured in the container?

Depending on the version, there are practical hooks or adhesive dots on the desiccant. This means that the product can be easily suspended using a positioning aid or, in the latter case, fixed directly onto the container goods.

Can desiccants be used without hesitation?

As the desiccants only consist of salt and starch (calcium chloride), they are safe to use. They do not contain any toxic substances, which means they can be easily disposed of with normal commercial waste.

They are also CTU compliant and conform to the 1907/26/EC standard in accordance with Article 31.

How many bags of desiccant are needed per container?

The number of bags to be used depends primarily on the type of cargo, the space available (air), the duration of transport and the transport climate conditions.
