That’s why our on-site appointments are a real added value for the customer. Theory is immediately put into practice in the realities of the company.

Product innovation

LT38e & ST25e battery tensioners

Laborious tensioning of lashing straps and strapping is a thing of the past. Whereas these were previously clamped by hand using a reel clamp, the new Rothschenk battery-powered clamping devices make this effortless.

Another advantage is the reproducible preload force. This means that the automatic switch-off point can be preselected via a torque preselector and called up again and again in exactly the same way.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Who is responsible for securing the load?

The operational safety of a vehicle is not only the responsibility of the driver, but also of the shipper and his supervisor. How can shipper obligations be observed in a legally compliant manner? What influences should be taken into account? What information must the shipper provide?

Read the entire technical article with pictures and practical examples in our LaSi blog.

What is container lashing and how do you apply it?
Container restraint systems, known as lashings, are designed to direct the acceleration forces via the webbing straps in a targeted and almost complete manner into the superstructure of the overseas container. They are faster and much more flexible in their application than conventional systems such as wooden bracing.

The container eyelets are fitted with pointed hooks (with unhooking protection), to which vertically flexible adjustable webbing straps are sewn. Depending on the load, a different number of horizontal straps are attached to it. These are closed in front of the goods with belt buckles, keeping the goods away from the container doors.

It is important that these systems are certified and comply, for example, with the CTU Code. Only then reliable load securing according to the loading scheme is guaranteed. We explain more details in our technical article: “Episode 16: Lashings and their application” with Sigurd Ehringer.
What is a dunnage bag/ dunnage pad for load securing?

The set of rules for securing cargo in containers is the CTU Code 2015. In Appendix 7, Annex 4, an entire chapter is devoted to the securing method using dunnage bags.

Dunnage bags for load securing are used to fill gaps in the load and thus create a tight fit. They are filled with a compressed air gun or a mobile battery blower and are therefore variable in width and internal pressure.

Furthermore, a simple design is distinguished, which is used for gaps up to 400 mm. So-called 3D dunnage pads are used for larger accumulation gaps, as their cubic design means that they lie more flat against the goods.

The dunnage bags consist of an inner cover made of PE film and an outer cover made of PP fabric or paper. The latter is not recyclable with the inlay and is more sensitive to moisture.

How does an anti-slip mat work?

In brief: Anti-slip mats increase the coefficient of friction between two contact surfaces, e.g. loading area and Euro pallet. Due to the combination of rubber lining/wood loading floor, the coefficient of friction is significantly higher than with a material pairing, e.g. wooden pallet to wooden loading floor. This means that less lashing equipment is required to secure the same load weight.

What do STF and LC mean in load securing?

STF stands for pretensioning force, LC for lashing force. It is important to differentiate according to the type of fuse. This is because, in the case of non-positive securing methods, the pretensioning force (KSTF) and also the existing coefficients of friction between the load and the loading surface are decisive. With positive-locking variants, on the other hand, the lashing force (LC) is decisive.

We reveal further details in our load securing article: “Episode 28: Pretensioning force STF and lashing force LC”.

“Episode 28: Pretensioning force STF and lashing force LC”.

What are the criteria for discarding lashing straps?

The lashing strap is considered to be ready for discarding when the following criteria are met:

  • In case of damage exceeding 10% of the cross-section (width as well as material thickness!)
  • In case of excessive wear, e.g. due to abrasion
  • In case of damaged seams or improper repair
  • In case of rust due to improper storage
  • In case of deformations due to improper handling, e.g. tensioning the ratchet with an extension
  • In the event of overstretching of the webbing, e.g. also by using a lever extension

You will find illustrated help with case studies in the detailed blog post: “Episode 29: Discard readiness of lashing straps – the criteria”.
